Position at Unity: I am the Athletic Director, Finance Director, Facilities Director, and Transportation Director.

Professional and Educational Background: In 1988 I earned a BA from Dordt College in Secondary Education (PE/Business). I taught, coached, and was AD for 6 years at James Valley Christian in Huron, SD. Our family moved back to NW Iowa in 1994 and I coached girls’ basketball at Unity for 3 years and worked outside of education with the exception of 7 months of teaching at Sheldon Christian. I than took a teaching/coaching/AD position at Faith Christian in Bigelow, MN. After one year there, we moved back to Huron and James Valley Christian where I have been teaching K-9 PE, High School Business, and have been the AD and Head Boys Basketball Coach for the last 13 years.

Childhood and Family Background: I grew up in Sioux Center, IA. I attended Sioux Center Christian School and graduated from Unity in 1984. My wife, Stephanie (Jacobsma), grew up in Sioux City, and Orange City, and also graduated from Unity in 1984. We have four children: Jon and his wife Hannah live in Orange City. Jon will be a 5th year senior at Northwestern and Hannah works full time at The Bridge. Kelly will be a senior at Dordt, Kristen will be a sophomore at Dordt and Heather will be a freshman at Unity.

Church Life: We are currently looking for a church home in Orange City.

Life Outside of Unity: I enjoy almost anything that involves sports. I love spending time with family and friends and if there is time an occasional sprint car race. Our family enjoys time at Okoboji and just hanging out together.

Why I Work at Unity: I am excited to be coming “home” and to have the opportunity to serve God at Unity. It is a joy to see young people develop in their faith and to be used by God to help mold and shape young lives into the image of Jesus Christ. I look forward to growing in my walk with God as I interact with fellow staff members, parents and students at Unity.
