Position at Unity: I have the pleasure of teaching 9-12 Choral and Orchestral music at Unity Christian High School. I direct and lead five different ensembles: String Orchestra, Concert Choir, Chorale, Knightsounds and Bel Canto.

Professional and Educational Background: I graduated with my undergrad from Dordt College in December 2010 with a B.A. in K-12 Choral and Instrumental Music Education and a minor in Clarinet Performance. After a semester of substitute teaching in Illinois, I officially began my teaching career at Unity Christian High School in 2011. June of 2013, my educational journey began again, when I started my Masters in music. July of 2016 I graduated from VanderCook College of Music with a MMEd in Instrumental Music Education.

Childhood and Family Background: I was born and raised in Frankfort, Illinois, a suburb 45-minutes southwest of Chicago. Daughter of Keith and Lauren Le Mahieu, I am the middle child of three girls. I now currently reside in Orange City and am married to the love of my life. I guess you could say Iím officially an Iowa girl now!

Church Life: My husband and I worship at Redeemer United Reformed Church. Members of the Fellowship Committee, we love to socialize and fellowship, encouraging one another in our faith (Rom. 1:12). I also enjoy serving on the music committee and as church pianist.

Life Outside of Unity: Aside from teaching music at Unity, I am adjunct at Northwestern College, directing their Womenís Choir. In addition, I am an avid performer. I can be found in the clarinet section with the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra and substitute for the Sioux City Symphony. Through my participation in several Tulip Festival Night Show Productions, I have learned to love small town life and enjoy community activities. Nigh Show highlights include playing the role of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof and Marian Paroo in The Music Man.

Aside from music, I enjoy a variety of different activities and hobbies. Married to the love of my life, Luke De Jong, cooking has recently become one of my favorite hobbies. When not cooking, I enjoy reading, traveling, spending time with family and friends, playing cards/games, running, hiking and kayaking.

Why I teach At Unity: Some people work to live, I live to work. Teaching is not merely my job, but my vocation. Recognizing the significant role Christian education has played in my life, I am now seeking to fulfill my calling and teach distinctively and redemptively. As believers, we are called to give our entire life to Christ, and I firmly believe this includes providing a Christ-centered education to our students. I am thrilled to teach and work in a community where music is a valued and core part of the academic day. God has blessed me with wonderful gifts to use for His glory and I am striving whole-heartedly to use them faithfully, equipping the future generation to love and serve God in all areas of their life.
