SECONDARY STUDENT TEACHING
All college students who aspire to become high school teachers are required to complete several weeks of student teaching. In most cases the student teaching experience is broken into two segments so that the college student benefits from working with at least two different cooperating teachers in a couple of different school settings.
Unity Christian High School has served as the “training grounds” through the years for numerous beginning teachers. This year is no exception, and yet we monitor the number of student teachers and the departments where they are placed. Although it depends upon the high school student’s schedule, we try to assign student teachers in such a way that no student will have what is perceived to be too many student teachers. I am pleased to report that the student teachers who come to us from Dordt College and Northwestern College perform at an outstanding level.
We welcome four secondary education student teachers for this session. They are as follows:
Russ Dykshoorn, a senior majoring in History at Dordt College, is working with Mr. Jeff Droog as his cooperating teacher. Russ is from Abbotsford, British Columbia.
Dale De Jong, a Northwestern senior from Orange City, is teaching History with Mr. Terry Beimers.
Jessica Pomerenke, majoring in Math, is from Sioux City. Her cooperating teachers are Mrs. Shirley Kaemingk and Mrs. Janna Van Donge. Jessica is a student at Northwestern College.
Megan Redlin is a senior at Northwestern College from Buffalo, Minnesota. Her major is Spanish and Mr. Rob Suwyn is her cooperating teacher.
We are pleased to cooperate with our local colleges in providing a strong preparation for each of these student teachers. We wish them God’s richest blessing as they follow His lead in the future.

**Moms-in-Touch: For the past two weeks, Unity's Moms In Touch praised God that
He is the Miracle Worker (One who performs unexplainable and supernatural acts) and that He is our Rock (One who is a firm foundation, stable, dependable, support, refuge). Please join us in praying Isaiah 26:3-4 for our child(ren) and all our students, faculty and staff: Lord, you promise to keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because he/she trusts in you. We pray that ___ would trust in you forever, for you are the Rock eternal. Moms In Touch gave thanks and prayed for by name some of our sophomore students along with Robert Suwyn (Spanish) and our custodial staff (Dennis Snieder and Bev Sneider, Shelley Everson and Melinda Jacobsma/Assistants) along with many other cares and concerns of our Unity staff, students, families and building project. Moms In Touch meets for one hour each Tuesday from 11 a.m. - noon in room 2 of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. All moms are welcome and encouraged to join us at any time. If you have any questions or prayer requests, contact Rachel Raih, rraih@mtcnet.net, or Carol Borchard, familyborch@yahoo.com.
