Mrs. Jennifer Wynstra

ELL (English Language Learner) Teacher

Teacher Photo Position at Unity: I am an ELL (English language learner) teacher at Unity. I work with international students and other members of the student body whose first language is not English.

Professional and Educational Background: I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Education, from the University Wisconsin in Madison. Following that I taught six years at Christian Life School in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Then, my husband John and I moved to Williamsburg, Kentucky where we worked, and I earned my Masters degree in Education at the University of the Cumberlands. Two years later my husband was offered a job at UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Happy to be closer to family, we returned to the midwest. There I worked eight years part time at our church, Prairie Lakes, and homeschooled our three sons. When they reached their teenage years I was offered a job teaching art, and as I am licensed to teach ELL and Art, both K-12, I accepted a teaching position at Valley Lutheran School where our boys finished their schooling and I taught for five years.

Childhood and Family Background: I grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. My husband John grew up in Racine, Wisconsin where he and I met. We have three sons, and one grandson. Our oldest son is a senior at ISU. Our twins are sophomores at Dordt. John is the Database Administrator at Dordt. He started last August. We are new to the area and are living in Sioux Center.

Church Life:  We attend Bridge of Hope Church in Sioux Center where John and I serve on the Worship Tech Team.

Life Outside Unity:  Our family loves to travel, explore, eat ethnic foods, learn about history, science, and other cultures, read, and enjoy God's creation.

Why I Work at Unity: I'm very excited to teach at Unity. I've enjoyed getting to know teachers and I look forward to getting to know students!
