Position at Unity: I teach in the math department and coach volleyball.
Professional and Educational Background: I graduated from Dordt College in 1999 with a B.A. degree in secondary education. I majored in mathematics and minored in physical education. I started coaching volleyball at Unity Christian in 2001, and teaching part-time in 2003.
Childhood and Family Background: I was born and raised in Orange City, Iowa. I attended Orange City Christian School and Unity Christian High School. After my sophomore year at Dordt, I married my high school sweetheart, Kevin Van Donge. We lived in Sioux Center, Iowa for three years, but moved back to Orange City for our jobs (I at Diamond Vogel and my husband at Noteboom Electric). After three years in accounts payable, I changed jobs to teaching part time at Unity. This is my eigth year of teaching at Unity and it has been an amazing blessing. My husband and I have three boys, Austin (8) and Jacob (6), and Tyce (2). We also have a Golden Retriever named Libby.
Church Life: Our family attends First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. We enjoy the young couples Bible study group and I play piano for song service and Sunday School.
Life Outside of Unity: Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and friends. We enjoy many outdoor activities. During the summer, we spend as much time as we can at the lakes boating and many nights playing cards. Some of my hobbies include playing piano, volleyball and scrap booking when there is time.
Why I teach at Unity: In the past years, God has been opening special doors for me. I have a love for and enjoy teaching and coaching young people who love the Lord and want to serve Him in all aspects of life. It is awesome to see the oneness at Unity Christian and the sharing of such an important goal: Christ centered education. I feel the Lord has called me to serve Him at Unity and to grow spiritually along with the students.
