Position at Unity: Academic Support Services.

Professional and Educational Background: I graduated from Dordt many years ago with a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in Social Studies. Since that time I have added a middle school endorsement. Currently I am enrolled in Morningside's graduate program working on an endorsement in Instructional Strategies: 5th-12th grade.

Childhood and Family Background: I grew up in rural Minnesota and attend Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg. My parents and two brothers with their families still live and work on our family farm. My older sister lives in Alton with her family. She is employed at Northwestern College. My husband is employed at American State Bank in Sioux Center. We have three children attending three different schools this year. Emily is a sophomore at Dordt college. Benjamin is a junior here at Unity. Katie is an 8th grader at Sioux Center Christian School.

Church Life: My family and I attend Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. At our church we are involved in the Laotian mission church in Sioux City. We have the privilege of teaching in their Sunday school program once a month.

Life Outside of Unity: Our family enjoys running. We run for fun and also can be found running to a variety of school activities. When I do have a quiet moment, I love to read.

Why I Teach at Unity: I am excited about this new teaching opportunity. After 11 years of teaching language arts part-time and resource part-time, I am looking forward to focusing on my teaching passion of working with students who don't learn traditionally.
