Position at Unity: I teach Agriscience, Horticulture, Agricultural Mechanics I & II, and Ag Business Management, Animal & Crop Science, and Wildlife & Natural Resources. I am assistance coach in volleyball and I am also the FFA Advisor.

Professional and Educational Background: I graduated from Iowa State University in 1979 with a B.S. in Agricultural Education. I taught Agriculture Education at Maple Valley Anthon Oto High School in Mapleton, Iowa for 35 years, was the head volleyball coach for 25 years, and the head boys golf coach for 20 years. I was the MVAO FFA Chapter Advisor for all 35 years as well. Through the MVAO FFA Chapter I was able to take students to all 50 states in order to develop their leadership and experience other agricultural practices throughout the United States. I currently have completed 2 years of instructor at Unity Christian.

Childhood and Family Background: My wife and I grew up in central Iowa and we graduated from West Marshall High School in 1975. I grew up on a farm and raised purebred Polled Herefords. I spent my time playing several sports in high school and continued to play basketball at Iowa State. After graduating from Iowa State I began teaching at MVAO High School. My wife, Laurie, and I have three children, Andy and wife Angela and granddaughter Poppy, Josh, and Rebekah. They have all graduated from college and have begun their own careers.

Church Life: My family and I have been members of the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton for several years and we currently attend Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.

Life Outside of Unity: I enjoy the outdoors, gardening, following the Chicago Cubs, and the Iowa State Cyclones. I have enjoyed traveling to several national parks, touring agricultural industries, canoeing in the Boundary Waters, and fishing in Lake of the Woods, Canada with students and family.

Why I Work at Unity: I look forward to bringing my 35 years of experience to Unity Christian to assist the community in developing a strong Ag program. I hope to encourage the students to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success.
